a HAZLEMERE family will don Father Christmas suits in memory of a relative who passed away earlier in the year.
Debbie Carter, her husband, Graeme, three children Harry, Joe and Leah and the family dog will take part in the Santa Dash fun run organised by Iain Rennie Hospice at Home at The Rye in High Wycombe next Saturday.
Mrs Carter’s father, Ron Mahoney, died in may, aged 74, and was cared for by Iain Rennie nurses in his final weeks.
Mrs Carter, 46, said: “My father had myeloma and kidney failure, and Iain Rennie nursed him through to the end. He was on dialysis and spent a lot of time in and out of hospital. The Iain Rennie nurses gave him help and support, and he used to really look forward to them coming.
“I’m in the second year of nursing training at the moment myself, and I’ve decided to become an end-of-life care nurse when I’m done. Seeing the Iain Rennie nurses at work has inspired me, and I know what I want to do in the future now. Hopefully I can work for the charity myself.”
The IRHH Santa Dash raises funds to support Iain Rennie nursing services, giving Chilterns people with life-limiting illnesses the choice to be cared for at home. Television star Fern Britton will start the event which takes place on December 11 at 10am.
Readers can enter the Santa Dash online or by phone until Friday, December 10. Call 01442 890222, email , or visit irhh.org/santadash.
The charity is also accepting entries on the day. Entry is £10 for adults and £5 for children, with under threes taking part for free. Family entry for two adults and three children aged 15 or under is £25. All fees include a free Father Christmas suit for participants to run in.
